STUPID Anonymous Comments!

Let me start this post with the reasons I allow anonymous comments on my blog with no moderation:

1) Many people find it difficult to leave a comment as anything other than anonymous if they don't have a blog or google account.

2) I like to see my comments show up immediately on a blog, so I want to do the same for others.

3) I have only had rare occasions where anonymous comments have been negative enough that they required being deleted.

Well, one of those occasions happened just this week. A person decided to comment on my "I got the job" post and here is the dialog that occurred:

Oh, I just love those anonymous comments where people say stupid and ignorant things about a person they know nothing about.
Thanks for being too scared to say who you are :)

And, again with the fear and audacity to comment anonymously. I really have never understood why people like you do that.
It just shows that you have nothing better to do than to try and start an argument with someone you don't know. Pretty pathetic.
This is my last reply to you and any other comments you post will be deleted.
Thank you for wasting another 60 seconds of my life.

As you can see, this anonymous person did reply again and I did stay to my word and delete the comment.
One thing I would like to make note of is that this last comment was signed "concerned educator". Ahhh, that rings a bell. I have had a run in with this antagonist before. In my post "Back into the swing of things" I had a similar conversation with this same person.
I refuse to let 1 person with very jaded and ignorant views cause me to change the way I administer my blog.
My blog is public and open for anyone to see. I have nothing to hide. In contrast, this "concerned educator" has no blog, gives no name or method of contact.
Also, this is the same person that commented before, which means they are reading my blog.

Dear Concerned Educator,
If you disagree so much with the decisions we make and the standards we live by, why do you keep coming back?
I mean, really, there are thousands and thousands or blogs out there to read. Do you just enjoy a good argument now and again? Do you search the internet for forums you disagree with so you can try to rock the boat?
If you don't like what I have to say here, go somewhere else!!
By the way, I plan to start deleting your comments without reply from now on. I do not have the time or the energy to argue with any more children in my life. I already have 4 and you are more childish than any of them!
Sincerely,
Home Educator

OMG - I just had a run in like yours not too long ago. How irritating!!

I also posted my response to his hypocritical comment on my blog.

Except I never heard back from him.

Your anonymous but concerned educator though? TOTALLY trying to rock the boat. I think s/he keeps coming back because your life is much more interesting than his/her own.

Rock on, girl - if they don't like what you write - they can go somewhere else.

:hugs:

Personally, I would have seen the first comment as an opinion and just treated it like that, thanks for the comment, we disagree, no worries.

I've just caught up on the posts leading into this one and... well... I have reservations myself about this particular school too. No, I don't know all the details nor have I seen it, but I'm also thinking just perhaps this school has a narrow perspective on life and education as well.

That's not to say it's wrong or dangerous, just that... such a school would spook me. :)

But there we go. Congratulations on the appointment, and I'm in no way saying you're not worthy of the position! All the best.

Cheers.

Mr. V,
I appreciate your difference of opinion and you have stated your disagreement in a respectful way. However, even from the anonymous name "concerned educator", this person was offensive.
Let me also just clarify about the narrow perspective. If narrow perspective means that I believe everything we learn should be Biblically based and I want to teach my children to be lights shining in darkness, then yes, I have a focused (narrow) perspective on life and education.

Heh. I wasn't actually speaking about the religious side of it. Nothing wrong with the stories of the Bible in my eyes if they're used to teach kids how to behave appropriately and what not. Not quite my direction, you understand, but I still make sure the kids listen in on their Religious Education half hour sessions each week. I was more talking about the homeschooling bit, to be honest, but you recognise I come from the 'other side', as it were! :)

I haven't seen his other comments, so in regards to the anonymous bloke, I'm only going on that one single comment. I can't make a complete and accurate opinion any further on it then other than that.

Cheers.

I think it's great that you're not letting that "blog troll" get to you. I never understand why some of the people who comment thrive on negativity. Good luck, hopefully Concerned Educator learns his or her lesson.

Dear Sweet Cassie,
For the past 8 years we have had people ask us about what we do. Some are positive, some are negative.
Your poor anonymous responder does not understand . People fear what they do not understand.

I had a problem with a commenter before, but he wasn't anonymous. He would leave mean and nasty comments on my posts daily. We're talking about him calling me a bad mother and my kids were brats. I asked him nicely to stop visiting and he basically told me he could do whatever he f@#k he wanted to. I ended up putting comment moderation on, spammed him and had a male blogging friend to tell him to lay off before I got rid of him. I just don't know why if people don't have anything nice to say, why say anything at all?

Congrats on the job - and for doing what you feel - and KNOW - is the very best thing for your family.

What's up with that? I've never gotten anything weird yet, but I have to admit, I would still be a little hurt that someone would disagree with me. Good for you for standing up for yourself!

UGH!! I had the blog troll about 2 weeks ago myself. Lots of rude comments but no names. I always think ti is ok to not agree with everyone but at least respect thier opinions and if the offend you do not read their blog. Good for you for standing up to the troll!! Keep on doing what you do! I love your blog even though we are 2 very different people. Differences make the world go around!

I have never had anyone leave anything unkind or in any way controvercial to me. I love to read my comments so I would hate to have someone leave things like that. I have home schooled my children for 14 years now. My oldest is graduating next month. We put her into school in high school. She took all AP and honors classes. She received a full scholorship to college. I don't mean this to brag, I am just receiving the confirmation that home schooling is not negative to our children socially or acedemically. If you are like me, these things are not anything that you were concerned about because you are confident that you are doing the right thing. Don't let the comment from anonymous or Mr V bother you. I am sure people who have not been around home schoolers mean only the best. It is not their choice in life and that is their choice to make. I don't know why our choices bother them enough to comment. I have had the obvious funny looks through the years when people ask my children where they go to school. I am glad to finally see two high schoolers excel in the public school setting. I know I have been able to teach them values and prepare them to live out what they have been taught. I want them to personally have a relationship with God. I just hope to encourage you to shake it off and not let it bother you. Narrow perspective? You bet! The gate is narrow and the path is wide. Isn't it great to have the key?

Keep doing what the Lord has put on your heart to do and know that it is right! So many question what they do not understand and criticize what they can not understand. It is foolishness to them. We homeschool and love it!

Oh, Cass. . .too funny! You know how we feel about anonymous. . in fact, Greg could write a glog for you if need be! So, apparently, you are responsible for kids slacking all across the nation and I'm responsible for ophans all across Liberia if adoptions close down b/c of unethical practices. . .

WOW, we are SO influential! Who would have thought?!

Love ya. . .you crack me up!

Bran
PS You are a GREAT MOM and TEACHER. . and more than that, a Godly influence in your children's lives!

I too dind mind differences of opinion...but there is no need for antagonistic shows of ignorance. We too are one of those "narrow minded" families :) Christ is our center and everything is focussed around Him. We school our children at home to bring them up and educate them in the Lord..through everything....starting with Language Lessons all the way up through history and science and just daily life. I too am a "concerned educator"...hence the reason my children are taught at home :)

Love the blog...keep at it Cassie....if s/he wants to take on all the homeschoolers....s/he has a lot of work to do LOL
