My baby's 4!!

I can't believe my baby boy is already 4 years old!! He had such a great time on his birthday. We do not have "birthday parties" every year for our kids. I qualify this because a family birthday party is already about 25 people. So, we only have friend parties on milestone birthdays (1,5,10,13,etc...). We have our own traditions to make birthdays a special day. First of all, the birthday boy/girl gets to choose all 3 meals for the day. Second, no chores for the day!! And thirdly, they just get treated extra special by everyone in the house.
So, to start our day off, we went to grandma and grandpa's for pancakes. My boy can put away pancakes like nobody's business.
After that, we had a normal Friday and swam all morning. This is one of Jordan's favorite things to do. In case you can't tell, he is doing a cannonball through the tube. He has now mastered the art of diving to the bottom of the pool for dive toys. He is a fish and loves every minute in the pool. After swimming, we headed to the mall to meet daddy for lunch. He wanted chicken fingers, so we got chick-fil-a. Here is another special treat my kids look forward to on their birthdays. ONLY on their birthdays, they are allowed to have a kid's meal from a restaurant. Any other day, they have water to drink and share food. So, this is a funny little thing that my kids always look forward to. So, we got our kid's meal and headed back to grandma's.
He had been telling me for the couple of days preceding his birthday that he wanted a boy's sleep over for his birthday. I normally would say no because that would constitute a friend party, but I made an exception. See, Jordan is also the only boy in our family and only has girl cousins his age. He sees the girls have sleepovers on a regular basis and is always jealous. So, we decided to bend the rules a little. I told him he could ask 1 friend to spend the night, so Andon joined the party.Everybody took a nap (I knew they would be up late) and then we had spaghetti for dinner.
We followed dinner with cake (of course, a baseball cake) and ice cream. His favorite present was the scavenger hunt his uncle Chris put together that led to his present (not the actual present, but the clues). Finally, we headed home and put a movie on for the kids at 8:30. The movie didn't end until after 10 and we headed to bed. At about 10:30, I put the boys to bed (in the same bed). By 11:30, I had told them to stop talking about 20 times and there didn't seem to be any end in sight. So, just before midnight, I finally had to separate the chatty duo. Within 5 minutes, they were asleep. But, don't you worry. They got just enough sleep to be up at about 7 a.m.!! They don't understand the concept of Saturday sleeping in. Oh well. They had a great time and Jordan loved every minute of his birthday.

The BIG 30!!

My birthday celebration actually began on Monday. My sister-in-law and friend decided to set up baby-sitting for the day and take me out. All I knew was that I was to be ready at 10:30 a.m. and have my schedule cleared until 5 p.m. Well, that sounded pretty good to me, so I accomadated. We started the day by having a pedicure.
Aside from the lady not understanding that she was scraping my leg off and that my friend had lost most of one of her toenails that day, it was a very relaxing time. If nothing else, it was a fun memory and my toes look pretty!
Then, we went to Season's 52 for lunch. If you have never been there, you are missing out. It was delicious, quiet and the busboy was totalling flirting (just what an almost 30 year old needs to feel young again!).
From there, we went to the mall and did a little shopping. It was a great day and I loved that I didn't have to plan any of it!!

Then came yesterday! The day started with my children (and some grandparent supervision) bringing me breakfast in bed. This is a first time for me and it was so cute to see them walking in with this fancy breakfast just the way I like it.
The rest of the day was pretty normal. My sister-in-law (who is watching me type this post and is wanting to make sure I include her) and I went to the free movie at the local theater with 9 kids, then met my parents and brother for a birthday lunch at a Mexican restaurant. The rest of the afternoon I hung out at home and my kids and nephew cleaned their rooms (what a great birthday present).
My husband got home early so that we could go out on a date "just the 2 of us". It was my 30th birthday and I did expect something a little more than a date out or dinner with the family, so I was keeping my eyes and ears open. In addition to that, my husband is a terrible liar (a quality I am always thankful for). Well, when we showed up to the restaurant, our table was filled with my family and a loud "Surprise!" with confetti.

There were still a couple of clues that left me feeling suspicious but I was good and didn't ask any questions. On the ride home, I couldn't help but think that there were going to be a group of friends at my parents house when I got there. In fact, if there wasn't, I think I would've been upset. Well, I was not disappointed. When I walked in the door, I was greeted by another big "Surprise!" and about 40 people! What truly did surprise me was the theme of the night.

They decided to surprise me with a birthday roast (not the slab of beef kind). It was a funny and insulting night! They picked the right person to roast because I thought the whole thing was hilarious!! This is a picture of my brother singing me "Cassie's Birthday Song (Dumb, dumb, dumb)". Isn't he sweet? I don't think I can do it justice in writing. So, I am going to be working on getting a couple of short video clips from the evening for your veiwing pleasure. This is a picture of the videographer/my brother-in-law (the person you can blame for how long it takes to get the video) and my pastor (you may think he would the nice one of the crowd, but he roasts me even when it's not my birthday). I can't remember the name of that other guy in the picture.

All in all, it was a great birthday and I am so thankful to all my friends and family who loved on me and helped me celebrate in a fun kind of way!

A New Stage of Life

This week will mark a new stage in my life. There are 2 events that are about to occur:
1) I will be turning 30 tomorrow!! I know, I don't look a day over 21, but it's true :)

2) My baby will be turning 4 on Friday (you may not consider a 3 year old a baby, but he certainly is to me)!!

I realized a couple weeks back that when Jordan turns 4, he will officially be out of a car seat and into a booster seat. We have not been without a car seat in the car for almost 9 years. It is hard to imagine driving without it.

As I think about the baby stage definitely being over and me entering my 30's all in the same week, I realized that this truly is a milestone week.
I no longer can say I have 4 YOUNG children at home. In 2 years, I will have a middle schooler. Although turning 30 is not something I find difficult or upsetting, it is a little to sad to say good-bye to this stage of my life.

Although, I also look forward to what this next stage is going to bring. I will be doing a lot less spanking and a lot more heart to heart conversations. Soon, I will be having "the talk" with my girls (o.k., I'm not looking forward to that). Going to the grocery store, library, etc... is not a discipline moment waiting to happen. I can actually enjoy their company. I will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a doula in the next couple of years.

This is also a milestone month because we just celebrated our 10th anniversary. We are now in the 2nd decade of our marriage. With this comes such a sense of security in who we are together.

I guess I have stopped and taken some time to reflect over the past 10 years that God has walked with us as a family. I am thankful for all He has given me. I look forward to what He has for our future.
I know I will be able to look back at this week and month and pinpoint when my role as a wife and mother changed drastically. I know it doesn't happen overnight, but it sure feels that way.

Cavity Update

We went to the dentist yesterday for a consultation. He said that he is hoping to be able to fill the cavity without doing a root canal (I am crossing my fingers). He won't know for sure until he starts cleaning out the decay and finds out exactly how bad it is.

So, the good news is the possibility of no root canal. The bad news is the bill is going to be $300 if there is NOT a root canal. We didn't even talk about the price if there is one.

Here appt. to get all the work done is next Wednesday. They are going to use laughing gas. I am glad to hear that because I didn't like the sound of needles or putting her out.

Our First Cavity!

How can there be anything wrong with that smile? Well, there is and it's a doozy!

A couple of weeks ago, this little girl told me that her tooth in the back of her mouth was hurting. As I tried to get a good look at her back molar, it looked to me like there was food stuck. So, we tried brushing really, really good to get it out. It seemed to look better but she complained about it hurting the rest of the day.

The next day she said it felt fine and didn't complain again. She is 6 years old so she has never been to the dentist. When she was complaining about the tooth, I figured I probably should take her in to get it checked out and have her first cleaning. But, because she didn't complain anymore, I was in no rush.

Well, last Thursday, the dentist called me to schedule my next appt. for a cleaning with my oldest. I said that I was wanting to get Sydney's tooth checked out first and she told me they had an opening that day. Great! I took it.

We went in and it wasn't long before they were showing me the x-ray and the enormous cavity in her 6 year molar.

They said the cavity was so large and so close to her nerve that they had to send me to a Ped. dentist because she will need an equivalent to a root canal. WHAT?!! (I don't think I actually said that, but the look on my face did).

Of course, the dentist asked me about sugar and candy and juice. Thankfully, I could give a big fat no to all of that. We do not allow hardly any sweets in our home. My kids drink water 90% of the time.

Also, the person who cleaned her teeth said that she had hardly any plaque on her other teeth. All the other teeth were perfectly healthy. And, the weird thing is that she just got these 6 year molars only a couple months ago! They told me that occasionally you can have a tooth come in bad. Also, she has very deep grooves in her teeth that are hard to reach with a toothbrush. In fact, they put sealants on 3 of her other teeth to avoid any future cavities.

So, we are going to the ped. dentist at 1:30 today for a consultation and then we will see where we go from there. I am not looking forward to any course of action that is going to be needed.

My husband's brother had an almost identical incident when he was this age. After talking to my mother-in-law, I have a good idea of what to expect. It doesn't sound any fun to me at all!

Please keep her (and me) in your prayers. I will keep you updated.

Happy Father's Day

I know you may love your dad and think he is great, but I am here to tell you that I have the best one out there!
Growing up, I was a big time daddy's girl! I knew my dad was somebody I could trust and tell anything to. He was never too busy to talk to me and he always treated me with respect and love. My silly "teenage or childish" problems were never an inconvenience to him. Still, today, he will make time to listen to his almost 30 year old daughter talk about whatever she feels the need to.He has carried on this relationship with my children and it makes me smile. He goes out of his way to show his grandkids how much he loves and adores them. He has such a knack for letting someone know they are special. His relationship with my oldest daughter is very similar to the one I had growing up. She is pretty sure she is an adult right along with the rest of us. So, he graciously talks to her like an adult and treats her that way. He never belittles or ignores her. She absolutely adores him and could spend 100% of her time with her grandpa.
Father's Day reminds me of what a an extremely blessed woman I am. Not only did I have an incredible (that doesn't mean perfect) relationship with my dad growing up, now we are great friends! I still love being around him and he still can make me feel special! He also can make me laugh like no one else. And I am amazed at the indescribable talent God has given him as an artist.
Thank you dad for being an earthly example to me of my relationship with Christ. You are a one of kind man and I LOVE YOU!!

Don't Throw Away Expired Coupons!!

If you are like me, you have always thrown away your coupons when they are past the expiration date. Well, today is a new day!
If you don't know, military bases accept coupons months past the expiration date. There is a program that will allow you to adopt a base and send all your expired coupons to them. It's easy to adopt and sign up.
Just go to this site and follow the directions. It only takes a couple minutes of your time and can be a tremendous help to those families serving our country.
I also feel so much better about some of those good bogo or $4 off coupons being used instead being thrown in the trash!
Check them out!

Be sure to check your Publix out for the same deals.

Anniversary Date!!

Thanks to all of you who voted for us a couple weeks back, we had a great date night for our anniversary. This is the first time we have gone on a date to a sit down restaurant in a long time!! Thank you for making our night a raving success! Here are some highlights from the night.

Every year we take an "anniversary picture" for a anniversary album we were given on our first anniversary. So, here is the one for year 10!

For dinner, we went to the Cheesecake Factory. With the $50 GC, we spent $2 out of pocket. We got an appetizer, split a meal, 2 drinks and dessert! I was actually amazed that the $50 only went that far. I guess the frugalness of me just couldn't understand it. But, the food was great and we didn't have to cook or clean a thing. Plus, we didn't actually pay for any of it. Thanks again!

As much as Cory has taught me to chill out a little, I may bring out a little silliness in him. I usually am pretty good about embarrassing him when we are in public. I think every time I took the camera out on our date, he chuckled to himself. He's getting used to me :)
I don't know. I just enjoy being weird!

After 10 years, our hands look a little different in this picture.

After dinner, we went to a movie (that we didn't pay for). I'm sure we were "that annoying couple with the camera". Cory was gracious enough to take the 6 shots I wanted in the theater to get the one that didn't show all my neck fat. What a sport!

We had such a fun time and we are looking forward to a whole 5 days just the 2 of us in September. Bahamas, here we come!!

10 Years of Marriage!!

Wow! I really can't believe it's been that long! 10 years ago today, I married the man that God had been preparing me for my whole life.
It is so nice to be able to look back over the years and smile :) I know many wives who don't. God has shown me so much about myself through my husband.
He has shown me how to slow down a little and relax.
He has shown me what a person of integrity looks like.
He has shown me that just because I think THIS is the way to do it, doesn't mean it is RIGHT! Oh, hasn't that been a hard lesson to learn over and over?
I know we can get on each other's last nerves and drive each other crazy!! But, in the end, we have grown to support and learn from each other.
I like to remember the vows we took on this day every year. I know they are long, but bear with me. So...
Cory,

I, Cassie, pledge to you, Cory, my faithfulness as long as life lasts. I give myself to you as your helpmate always, to become one with you according to God's ordained plan for our lives together. In doing so, I will be your encourager, in times of fruitfulness as well as disappointment.

I will support and uplift you by my attitude, my words, and my deeds. I will pray for you, challenge and comfort you. I will respect you, and submit to your leadership as to the Lord in the decisions which we will need to make jointly or individually. I choose to stand beside you to support you as we live and grow together, learning to view life from God's perspective.

I will always honor you as the head of our household, just as Christ is the Head of the Church. I give my body fully, totally, and unselfishly to you to satisfy, fulfill, and love you all the days of our lives. I promise to bear, love and raise our children as God chooses.

It is my desire to be a crown to your head and to bring honor to your name. I will trust God to give me a humble, repentant and forgiving heart. I promise to love you as an act of my will for the rest of my life in the presence or absence of romantic feelings. I choose you, Cory, over every man I have ever met or ever will meet, to be my husband.

I say these vows again today as a reminder of all the things I promised you 10 years ago. Thank you for living up to your vows and being our protector and provider and head of our home! You truly are an example of Christ to me in so many ways! I love you and I am so thankful God put us together!

I will be posting pictures from our date tomorrow. We are going to the Cheesecake Factory and "Indiana Jones"!

Publix Grocery Sale for 6/5-6/11

For great deals at more stores, check out the Grocery Gathering @ BeCentsable.

***HOT COUPON ALERT***
There is a $10/75 coupon on the front of the Winn-Dixie and Save-Rite ads. Both of these can be used at Publix. Also, the $5/40 (for those areas that got it from last weeks paper) is still good for this week and through the end of July.

It's looks like a slow week for Publix. So, here is what is worth the trip:

Yoplait Go-Gurt Yogart 8 pk (bogo @ $2.89/2)
Use 2 $.50/1 or 1 $1/2 from ss 5/11
Makes them $.94 a box

General Mills Cereal (bogo @ $4.09/2 - includes Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp, Kix, Reese's 11.25 to 13 oz, Golden Grahams 16 oz, Cinnamon Toast Crunch 17 oz, or Breakfast Pack 9.14 oz)

Use $1/2 from Publix magazine in front of store (I think this is where it came from. I'll check to be sure)
Makes them $1.14 each

The details for the deal from last week about ConAgra foods is following:
From 5/29-6/29, if you buy $20 in participating products, you get a $25 GC to Home Depot (after filling out rebate form)
If you buy $10 in participating products, you get a $10 GC to Home Depot (after filling out rebate form).
The participating products are the same ones mentioned in last weeks post.
I will be watching for any of these to go on a good sale that would make a $10 or $20 purchase worth getting a free GC.
Also, the rebate form does not say anything about sales needing to be 1 trip or 1 receipt. It looks like if you buy the amount over the course of the month, it will still work.

O.k., here are the bogo deals with no coupons:
Klondike Bars ($4.43/2)
Kraft Easy-Mac ($3.49/2)

Biggest Loser - GRAND FINALE!!

It's the week you've all been waiting for!! That's right, it's the final weigh-in and reveal! It has been 12 long weeks and 16 big pounds of fat gone!
The final weights are
Me (154 - Total of 16 pounds!!)
Jess (150 - Total of 11 pounds!!) - Check her page to see her reveal!!
Officially, that makes me the winner. Woohoo! But, we are both winners in my book (do you hear the sappy movie music?). O.k., o.k., on to the good stuff...
Here is the before picture for Jess:
And, here's mineAnd here is the after......

Ummm... you better tell me that you can tell a difference with the face and neck (I used to have 2 necks, now I only have 1!!) Oh, and I love my new dew!! It's perfect for the hot Summer here in Florida!
As far as my stomach and boobs go... Oh my! This has been the trouble area for some time. I not only went down a pant size, I also went down a bra size. By the way, let me just say looking for a new bra is not nearly as exciting as looking for new clothes. I still have a very hard time finding anything in my size that doesn't look like something my Grandma would wear. I have come to the conclusion that boobs are just not "in". Tough luck for me and my large chested friends. Anyhow, on to more positive thoughts. Look, I am wearing jeans and there is not a roll hanging out the top! What?!! Too exciting! I am still not where I want to be here, but I'm not done losing fat.
I am only about half way, so I will continue to watch my eating and exercise throughout the Summer. I hope to be down another 14 pounds by the time of my cruise. If so, you better believe you'll see another reveal.
