Testing - Day 2

Yesterday, Morgan took her very first ever classroom test!! She took the Otis Lennon test. I liked this being her first test because it was only 1 1/2 hours long. She left feeling confident.
Today was the first of 2 days of SAT testing. Today, she had to be there an hour earlier (8:30 a.m.) and stay until 12:45! She is doing the same thing tomorrow.
What I was the most concerned about was the fact that they were not allowed to have any snack or lunch break!! Now, I know my child can survive 4 1/2 hours without food. She's done it many times. At home, we don't have snacks everyday. The concern I have is that by about 11:30, they are going to have a classroom full of hungry kids. It seems to me like this could heavily affect their testing abilities. I know once my child feels the first pang of hunger, her mind cannot think of anything else (she's just like her mama).
The best I could do was make sure she had a heavy breakfast (Sonic Toaster Sandwich on the way there) and bring her lunch in the car when I picked her up.
I asked her how she did and she replied with a very low key, "o.k.". She didn't offer a lot of information (she rarely does to mommy), but she did say that she was done with each section before the time was up and she read an entire chapter of her book while she was waiting.
I am so curious to see the results!! I have no idea how long I have to wait, but I'm sure it's too long!

I wonder why they don't let them have any snacks? We do even in the middle school. Our kids had granola bars, raisins, or cheese sticks for a snack.

Hope they change their minds next year about snacking!

P.S. I'm sure that Morgan did well!

I am nervous too! My son will be taking his in two weeks. I state homeschool program sponsers the testing and they allow them to have a break with snacks. Each parent brings a certain item. I am suppose to bring napkins and cups.

The weird thing to us is how short of a test it is. When he went to Christian School Testing took all week. Yet this will be 2 hours one day (language and history) and 2 hours the next day (math and science) I mean really how much can the glean from this testing????

I just pray he does well. He always did fairly well on the ones he took while attending school. Being my first year homeschooling I will admit I worry that we left some things out.

The thing is, I did not get as far in math as we would have liked, but that is not because I did not do it with him. I just made him keep doing things until he got it--I did not just "move on" which they would have in school. I would rather cover things well enough for him to "get it" than get moving.

I just hope it was good enough for what they expect score wise!

Hello there! I have been checking out your log every now and again but haven't been able to leave replys.
Hope all is well with you and your family. Sean took is reading test a couple of weeks ago. It should have been 65 minsw long but he finished after 50. I wasn't impressed...
He told Kate, the christian teacher that was testing him that he was finished and even though I had told him to go over his work and she advised him to, he just said he was ok and put his pencil down and went off to play!
His results turned out to be average so I scolded him and explained "again" how important it is to go over his work when he is finished, if he has the time. We'll see what will happen in June when he has his maths test!
God bless,
Ruth
