How Can Anyone ENJOY Running?!!

I just don't get it. I have started running again the last couple weeks. The difference between me and "a runner" is that the ONLY reason I am doing this is for the sole purpose of losing those last 15 pounds that are haunting me.
Yet, I talk to runners who tell me how much they love running. That seems like an oxymoron to me. I do NOT get a high, I do NOT enjoy the heat, I do NOT feel more energized! All I feel is complete exhaustion and sweat!! I have to completely psych myself up for a run and remember what a fat butt I have in order to motivate myself out the front door.
So, for all you runners out there, YOU MAKE ME SICK :)

I simply walk every day. I am 60 years old so running is out. I can't say that I enjoy walking, either, although it does leave me energized. I have lost a little bit of weight and I tell myself that it is good for my heart, etc. That is my only motivation. Hats off to those who run even if they don't enjoy it and feel exhausted and sweaty afterwards.

Do you want to be fat or skinny -- get out there and run and stop whining about it.

Running is not fun. You'll learn to like it when you start losing weight.

Running is sick and wrong!! If I have to 'learn to like it' something is VERY wrong!

I am with you on the heat. Being in Florida there is nothing fun to do in the heat of summer. Even the pool is too hot.
I have to say I love your blog. Came across it when doing a search about schedule for 4 children. Your last post about change I am so into that same place. And all of my IN LAWS love to change plan on me at the last minute.

You're funny! I didn't understand the "running" craze until I ran the Disney 1/2 marathon a few years ago. The runners high takes a while to get! Try running in a race..it's the best way to appreciate running. The Turkey Trot is fun. I saw Elvis there!

Cassie,
You do NOT have a "fat butt"! You are a beautiful picture of God's discription of a loving and commited wife, and nurturing Mother. My goodness, you have taken on the task of educating all 4 of your children! You have already done so much to lose weight and get in shape, and you have accomplished those goals!!! Don't let those last few pounds "haunt" you. Like I said, you are beautiful. And I KNOW Cory would agree!!!!
I love you!

Oh, I wish I could help you enjoy it! Running EARLY in the morning helps with the heat factor and gives you energy to get through the day! It is also enjoyable to run with someone so you can talk about life as you run. I couldn't run a block without dying when I started and I didn't enjoy it either. Now, I can't imagine life without it! That was 12 years ago when I started. Hang in there, you may enjoy it some day! Love ya, Christie

I am going to try to encourage you to somehow like running. I live in North FL and yes, it is H.O.T. I find that I am better earlier than later. I also agree with other in that maybe a goal would be more fun like a small race. OR what about a running friend to help make it less painful. I have some musts when I run. #1 I always have gum to chew. #2 ipod!

Another suggestion? google search for couch to 5K for a reasonable training into running.

Happy trails!!

Cass, I have the shoes. I have the clothes. The bra of all bras...still can't make myself run. It is just too hot and hard and it hurts, doggone it...but in Heaven I so want to be a runner! I really want to be a runner, I just don't want to actually run to be one.

I only run when being chased...and I am never chased.
