Getting in Shape Sucks!

Ok, we joined the YMCA a couple weeks ago. We applied for a scholarship and got 1/2 off the price. My main reason for joining the Y as opposed to other gyms is the kids. I love that the Y not only has child care, but lots of activities the kids can be involved with. As far as joining a gym in general... Well, that just has to do with 50 extra pounds I've been carrying around. I am just sick enough of myself that something HAD to be done. Obviously, I cannot seem to be consistent on my own working out. I know I need some accountability and taking classes at the Y seems a great way to accomplish that.

But, I thought taking classes would make working out fun and less painful. I know that may sound stupid to some or funny to others. But, to me, working out is just NO FUN!! Maybe I am just lazy or maybe I just like instant gratification. I don't know. But, sitting here tonight unable to walk well and barely able to sit down or get up, I remember clearly why I hate working out. I know, I know... It will all be worth it in the end.

Trying to convince myself that all these stupid classes will eventually be fun is about as crazy as when I tried to convince myself that eventually I would learn to love running (if I would just do it long enough).

The only motivation I have right now is the mirror. Well, the mirror and my clothes. I just hate that it is going to take a lot longer than I want to see some serious results. Maybe I should just have a bowl of ice cream!! :)

Ha ha ha, the bowl of ice cream comment cracked me up! I think everyone is impatient when it comes to seeing change. Getting started is the hardest part. Get over that part and you'll be on your way!

(I say this, having not exercised at all since the week before my wedding 6 1/2 years ago ;)

It's so good to have you blogging again. I really enjoy reading your thoughts.
I too need to do something about the extra 50lbs tp lose. I start my workout classes to day and I am so scared of how sore I will be later. I hate working out.I'm taking bellydancing and pilates/aerobics.
Kepp us updated on this new journey and keep up the good work.

I don't have four kiddos and the time constraints they bring, but I will encourage you to keep it up! For an able-bodied person, exercise is 100% mental and you'll never regret doing it. I'm sure you're up to the challenge.

I get up at 5 every morning to run a few miles with the dog. Yes, most mornings I would love that extra hour of sleep, but I know I won't come home and run after working 9 hours. That works for me.

Keep going, Cassie! You can make it! :) After a while, the pain won't be so bad. When my friend, Martha, talked me into working out with her, I hated it. She's built like a Marine . . . because she had us doing Marine-based work outs. Eventually, the pain started to feel like a reward--not because it was pleasant, but because I felt like I had accomplished something. It was an indicator that I had really pushed myself, gotten through it, and my body was building muscle and burning calories because of it. Keep it up! :)
