Garden Journal - Week 6 - Cantaloupe Are Taking Over!

Here is a picture of our cantaloupe bed. They have completely filled out the bed and are overflowing. We keep having to re-direct the vines back into the bed. I have seen bees several times moving their way throughout these and there are flowers everywhere! I'm sure we are going to have a crazy amount of fruit here soon. They have only grown 1" in height, but have spread all out.
The Green Beans had a good week. They have grown from 12" to 17". They are very bushy and there seems to be lots of blooms. Still no bean buds.
The one and only Green Pepper. This is the only one we were able to salvage and I don't think anything else is going to grow because the plant looks like...
THIS (what is the problem with the peppers?!) This was the last one and I think it is about to make it's way to the green pepper grave yard :(
The squash continue to multiply. The stems have broken off into many more stems and there are baby squash all throughout the bed.
Here is what they look like all together.
The tomatoes are so close to being ripe. I can hardly wait. There have to be about 10 tomatoes this size and another 20 baby ones.
We also have 1 tomato plant that is grape tomatoes. These are filling out nicely and should be ready to pick soon.
They have grown from
23" to 34"
25" to 40"
49" to 53"
24" to 34"
33" to 46"

Hi, another homeschool mom here. Just wanted to share that we are having a problem with our peppers as well. We started with 8 then 6 wilted and died so we replaced them with 6 new ones and they died as well. We still have the original 2 that were doing well. I have grown peppers before in Florida without this problem but this year we are having big trouble with the peppers. I have no idea why. The tomatoes and herbs are doing well growing in containers on the patio.

Collette,

Thanks. I was wondering what in the world the problem was. I'm glad it's not just me :)

I am loving your garden...my tomatoes have been green for about 2 weeks...I think we might need to have some fried green tomatoes. What a find to see that you and Jackie Sue are friends. I met her in San Antonio last Aug. at a Beth Moore conference. We keep saying we are getting together. Are you going to the used book sale on Sat?

Jill,

I was thinking the same thing about the tomatoes. I've never tried them before, but I'm up for it. If you find a good recipe, let me know.

I will be at the sale on Saturday. Actually, I am working it. I'm not sure which section I will be at yet, but I'll be there all day!

Are you using the squarefoot gardening method? This is my first year gardening and I am using the squarefoot gardening method with raised beds like your. I have also lost all of my pepper plants, that is very wierd. I have had one problem after another with bugs and too much rain maybe. My little squash will have a fuzzy mold on them and are real mushy. I do not know what causes that. I am trying to not be discouraged and realize this is my learning year.

Hart Family,

I have never heard of the squarefoot gardening method. This is our first year and a lot of things are by trial and error. We have some squash that seem to be having the same problem you are. From what I understand, that could be that those ones were not pollinated and so they wilting up and dying. Do they still have the flowers attached? If the flowers fall off and the squash grows larger, then you know that the flowers were pollinated.

An Leaked Lady GaGa Single was Unwrapped this afternoon with no traces of where it originated from.
Some say that it was found in GaGa's Record Label's headquarters.
